TOP PICKS FOR THE WEEK

- BY MEGAN BENNETT

SITE Santa Fe’s new SITElab space will switch out its inaugural exhibition for a new solo show diving into politics and presidencies. “A More Perfect Union” is the work of R. Luke DuBois, a New York-based composer and artist who specializes in sound and video.

The show features some of his newer works including a “Twitter-based portrait” of President Donald Trump as well as older works like “Hindsight is Always 20/20.” The 2008 piece, created to display “American history through political rhetoric,” takes State of the Union addresses from George Washington to George W. Bush and displays the most commonly used words in a Snellen Eye Chart. DuBois will also be around for a Saturday concert in which his videos will be projected alongside the live performance of unconventional multi-instrumentalist Bora Yoon. The concert will be at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 — $10 for students — and can be purchased at sitesantafe.org.

“A More Perfect Union” will be on display until April 4. The SITElab is open and with no admission Monday-Thursday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m, Friday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday 12-5 p.m.

General admission for SITE, 1606 Paseo De Peralta, is $10, $5 for students and seniors and free for SITE members or guests ages 17 and under. Friday and Saturdays until noon are free.

CLASSIC DRAMA: “Double, double toil and trouble!” Performances of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” begin tonight, performed by the kids from the Upstart Crows of Santa Fe. For those who don’t know the story, the tragedy follows the Scotch military leader Macbeth as he kills his king, goaded on by three witches’ prophecy and the urgings of his wife. Macbeth takes the throne but the murder comes at a price and he soon becomes overwhelmed with guilt and has to kill more to cover up his crime. The cast, ages 10-18, will perform this weekend and next weekend at El Museo Cultural, 555 Camino de la Familia. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10, or $5 for students. Tickets can be reserved at upstartcrowsofsantafe.org or at 505-466-3533.

TALES FROM THE BORDERLINE: A oneact show telling the tales of both physical and political aspects of the U.S.-Mexico border will feature the words of some of the country’s most famous storytellers told through local artists. “Atravesada: Poetry of the Border” will include stories with topics ranging from immigration raids to what it is like to be bicultural. The show also includes writers’ descriptions of the border itself, including “a wall of barbed lies” or “a sleeping beauty.” Featured are the writings of Sandra Cisneros, Gloria Anzaldúa, Lorna Dee Cervantes and nearly 10 more, with about a dozen Santa Fe performers doing dramatic readings of the poetry. “Atravesada” will continue at Teatro Paraguas, 3205 Calle Marie, this weekend and next. Shows are Thursday-Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $5-$15. Tickets can be reserved at www.brownpapertickets.com or by calling 505424-1601.
