Police: Gas station attendant killed during armed robbery in Edgewood

State Police say an attendant at the Smith’s Fuel Center in Edgewood was fatally shot Sunday afternoon during an armed robbery.

Officer Carl Christians­en said police believe a man with a semiautoma­tic handgun and a bandana tied over his face walked into the gas station, located on N.M. 344 near Route 66, around 4 p.m., robbed the attendant and shot him. The attendant was transporte­d to a hospital where he died.

Christians­en said in a news release that the suspect was described as white or Hispanic, approximat­ely 25 to 30 years old, thin and around 6 feet tall. He said it is not clear what was taken from the fuel center during the robbery.

Police have not released the victim’s name or age.
