-

Gertrude H. "Trudy" Finley, age 97, an Albuquerque native, went home to be with our Lord after a long illness on February 7, 2018. She entered this world on February 5, 1921 in Albuquerque,

NM, born to Carl and Emilie Hendricks. She had four sisters and two brothers and lived in the South Valley on a farm with her parents and siblings. She graduated from Albuquerque High and attended business school. She married her high school sweetheart Jack Finley in 1940 and during their marriage they had two sons, Gary and Dana. For years, she was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, where she and Jack sang in the church choir. During WWII Gertrude worked as a secretar y/book keeper while waiting for her husband’s return as a surviving POW of Japan. When Jack returned home in 1945 he decided to stay in the Army, which required the family to move to many locations. His final assignment was Brussels, Belgium from 1952-1955. During that time the family had the opportunity to meet Trudy’s relatives who lived in Germany. After returning to Albuquerque, Trudy worked at Sandia Laboratories as a graphic artist. Both Trudy and Jack retired in 1976. They chose to travel throughout the United States in their RV. Their favorite destination was Bayview, Idaho where they spent most of their summers for more than 20 years. Trudy loved to bake, paint, work with stained glass and sew, but most of all, she loved entertaining her friends and family. She and Jack played cards weekly with her sisters and brother-in-law. They laughed and shared many things in their lives. Trudy was blessed with having 62 years with Jack and treasured the many good times they had together. She is survived by her sons, Gary and wife Nancy, Dana and wife Susie; grandchildren, Heather Konidaris, Derrick and wife Kristy Finley; great-grandchildren, Emery and Kinsley Finley; sister, Inge Alghrim; brother-in-law, Richard Trask; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents, Carl and Emilie Hendricks; brothers, Edward and Carl Jr.; sisters, Sophie Trask, Margret Carroll, Bettye Sharp; and grandson, Garth Finley. The family extends their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Woodmark at Uptown and Brookdale Clare Bridge Memory Care, as well as Hospice of New Mexico. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, 10:30 a.m. at Montgomery Church of Christ, 7201 Montgomery Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gertrude’s name to Montgomery Church of Christ, Children’s Ministry.
