Michigan St. wins 10th in a row; SDSU slaps UNLV

Baylor women go to 15-0 in Big 12 play

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Cassius Winston scored 17 points, and No. 2 Michigan State erased a 27-point deficit on Saturday to beat Northweste­rn 65-60 and extend its winning streak to 10 games.

Nick Ward added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Miles Bridges hit four free throws in the final minute, and the Spartans (26-3, 14-2 Big Ten) used a huge second half to pull out the win when they looked like they were headed to a stunning blowout loss.

NO. 3 VILLANOVA 95, NO. 4 XAVIER 79 : In Cincinnati, Mikal Bridges led an early 3-point shooting spurt that put Villanova in control, and the Wildcats showed they’re not ready to relinquish their reign in the Big East, beating Xavier in a showdown for the league lead.

The Wildcats (24-3, 11-3) have won all four regular-season titles since the league was reconfigur­ed. Xavier (24-4, 12-3) simply wasn’t up to the Wildcats’ level.

BAYLOR 59, NO. 7 TEXAS TECH 57: In Waco, Texas, Terry Maston scored 24 points and the Bears ended the Red Raiders’ seven-game winning streak after the Big 12 leaders lost top scorer Keenan Evans to a foot injury in the first half.

The Bears (17-10, 7-7 Big 12) continued their push for the NCAA Tournament with a fifth straight win. Texas Tech (22-5, 10-4) dropped into a tie for first with No. 13 Kansas.

NO. 9 GONZAGA 81, PEPPERDINE 67: In Spokane, Wash., Johnathan Williams had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Gonzaga held off lastplace Pepperdine to remain in first place in the West Coast Conference.

Killian Tillie and Josh Perkins each scored 15 points for Gonzaga (25-4, 15-1 WCC).

SOUTH CAROLINA 84, NO. 10 AUBURN 75: In Columbia, S.C., Frank Booker scored 19 points, and South Carolina built a 26-point lead before holding on to defeat Auburn, ending the Gamecocks’ six-game losing streak. The Tigers (23-4, 11-3 SEC) had won seven of eight.

NO. 13 KANSAS 77, NO. 20 WEST VIRGINIA 69: In Lawrence, Kan., Udoka Azubuike scored 21 points and Devonte’ Graham added 15 to help Kansas past West Virginia.

After being tied at halftime, the Mountainee­rs (19-8, 8-6 Big 12) led until the game was tied at 66 with about two minutes remaining. The Jayhawks (20-7, 10-4 Big 12) wouldn’t reclaim the lead until Svi Mykhailiuk hit a pair of free throws 30 seconds later.

NO. 14 NORTH CAROLINA 93, LOUISVILLE 76: In Louisville, Ky., Joel Berry scored 23 points and the Tar Heels dominated the boards.

The Tar Heels (21-7, 10-5 ACC) scored 10 straight points for a 12-3 lead before warming up from long range to eventually build a 19-point cushion before withstandi­ng several rallies from Louisville.

GEORGIA 73, NO. 18 TENNESSEE 62: In Athens, Ga., Yante Maten scored 19 points, and Georgia denied the Volunteers an opportunit­y to pull within a game of the SEC lead. Derek Ogbeide had 16 points for Georgia (15-11, 6-8 SEC). Tennessee is 19-7, 9-5.

ARKANSAS 94, NO. 21 TEXAS A&M 75: In Fayettevil­le, Ark., Jaylen Barford scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half to lead Arkansas to its fourth straight win. It was the 10th straight over the Aggies in Fayettevil­le for the Razorbacks (19-8, 8-6 SEC). Robert Williams had 20 for Texas A&M (17-10, 6-8).

TEXAS 77, NO. 23 OKLAHOMA 66: In Norman, Okla., Dylan Osetkowski scored 21, Texas slowed national scoring leader Trae Young, and the Longhorns extended the Sooners’ losing streak to five games.

Young scored 26 points for the Sooners (16-10, 6-8). Mohamed Bamba had 10 points and 18 rebounds for Texas (16-11, 6-8 Big 12).

Mountain West

NO. 24 NEVADA 93, UTAH STATE 87: In Logan, Utah, Cody Martin scored 30 points and twin brother Caleb added 23 to lead Nevada past Utah State. UNR (23-5, 11-2) shot 59.3 percent. The Aggies are 14-14, 7-8.

BOISE STATE 76, AIR FORCE 52: In Boise, Idaho, Chris Sengfelder tallied 17 points and Chandler Hutchison notched a double-double to power BSU (21-6, 11-4). Lavelle Scottie had 11 points to pace the Falcons (10-15, 4-9).

SAN DIEGO STATE 94, UNLV 56: In San Diego, Matt Mitchell scored 21 points, Jalen McDaniels added 18 and the Aztecs throttled the Runnin’ Rebels.

The Aztecs (15-10, 7-7) pulled to .500 in league play. Javon Mooring scored 16 points for UNLV (19-8, 8-6).

WYOMING 89, SAN JOSE STATE 75: In Laramie, Wyo., Hayden Dalton sank six 3-pointers to lead the Cowboys (17-10, 8-6), who host the UNM Lobos on Tuesday.

Keith Fisher III scored 26 points for SJSU (3-22, 0-14).

FRESNO STATE 86, COLORADO STATE 65: In Fresno, Calif., six Bulldogs scored in double figures led by Bryson Williams with 19.

Fresno State (19-8, 9-5) shot 54.7 percent. Nico Carvacho had 14 points for CSU (11-17, 4-11).

ENMU: In Portales, senior guard Lamarquis Thompson hit a threepoint­er for the Greyhounds with 13 seconds left, but Cameron answered with one of its own for a 60-58 win. Thompson had 15 points in his final home game at ENMU (10-15, 5-11 Lone Star).

Women’s Top 25

NO. 3 BAYLOR 88, KANSAS 51: In Waco, Texas, Kristy Wallace scored 26 points, Kalani Brown added 20 and the Bears beat the Jayhawks.

Dekeiya Cohen and Lauren Cox both scored 11 for Baylor (25-1, 15-0 Big 12).

NO. 6 TEXAS 77, No. 21 OKLAHOMA STATE 62: In Stillwater, Okla., Brooke McCarty scored 17 points to help Texas defeat Oklahoma State.

Ariel Atkins scored 15 points, Jatarie White scored 12 and Joyner Holmes added 10 for the Longhorns (22-4, 13-2 Big 12).

CALIFORNIA 78, NO. 14 STANFORD 66: In Berkeley, Calif., Asha Thomas scored 25 points and was one of three Cal players to hit a clutch 3-pointer down the stretch as the Golden Bears ended Stanford’s seven-game winning streak.

The Cardinal (19-9, 13-3), pulled within 62-60 with 4½ minutes to play. Kianna Smith had 14 points for Cal (18-9, 9-7 Pac-12).

NO. 19 GREEN BAY 67, YOUNGSTOWN STATE 42: In Youngstown, Ohio, Jessica Lindstrom because the all-time doubledoub­le leader and Green Bay outscored Youngstown State 21-0 in the third quarter and coasted to a win.

Lindstrom finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds for the Phoenix (233, 13-2 Horizon League).

NO. 24 BELMONT 80, MOREHEAD STATE 56: In Nashville, Tenn., Kylee Smith had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Darby Maggard had 14 points and 10 assists and Belmont won its 17th straight game over Morehead State.

Sally McCabe added 16 points as the Bruins (26-3, 16-0 Ohio Valley) had a 51-29 rebounding advantage.

ENMU: In Portales, Daeshi McCants had 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead Eastern New Mexico University to a 65-57 win over Cameron. It was the final home game for ENMU (16-9, 12-6 LSC).

WNMU: In Silver City, seniors Jade Botelho, Lucy Benning, Myla Woods-Brown and Melody McLaughlin combined for 21 points during their final home games, but Midwestern State beat Western New Mexico 80-45.

The Lady Mustangs fall to 1-25 overall and 1-17 in LSC play.
