The NCAA has declared No. 14 Arizona’s Allonzo Trier ineligible for the reappearance of the banned substance that led to a 19-game suspension last season.

The school said the NCAA notified the Wildcats on Thursday that the junior guard had a trace amount of the substance from a drug test late last month. Arizona did not specify the drug, saying only it was a banned substance.

Arizona says the amount detected was minuscule by scientific standards and appeared to be a remnant of the performance-enhancing drug Trier unknowingly ingested last season. The NCAA agreed, the school said.

Arizona is appealing the decision and hoping Trier will regain his eligibility soon.

Trier sat out the first 19 games in 2016-17 after testing positive for the drug, which he said came from a well-intentioned person not affiliated with the UA following an injury.

Without Trier on Thursday night, the Wildcats (22-6, 12-3 Pac-12) were 75-65 victors over host Oregon State (13-14, 5-10). Deandre Ayton led Arizona with 19 points.

No. 9 PURDUE 93, ILLINOIS 86: In Champaign, Ill., Carsen Edwards scored a career-high 40 points to help Purdue (25-5, 14-3 Big Ten) outlast Illinois.

Illinois (13-17, 3-14) stayed within striking distance the rest of the game, but ultimately Purdue’s size and Edwards scoring were too much.

No. 11 CINCINNATI 77, UCONN 52: In Highland Heights, Ky., Gary Clark scored 10 of his 17 points during Cincinnati’s decisive spurt as the Bearcats shook off consecutive losses by beating Connecticut for their fifth straight win over the Huskies (13-15, 6-9 AAC).

Cincinnati (24-4, 13-3) recovered from a loss at Houston that ended its 16-game win streak and a loss to Wichita State that snapped their 39-game home

streak. ANGELO STATE 86, EASTERN NM 83 (OT): In San Angelo, Texas, ASU’s Ja’Michael Brown scored a team-high 23 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:27 left in overtime, to lead the Rams (18-9, 9-8 Lone Star) past ENMU 10-8, 5-12).

Brooke Salas led NMSU with 17 points. Jasmine Cooper had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

On Saturday, New Mexico State faces Missouri-Kansas City at noon MT.

No. 4 LOUISVILLE 51, VA. TECH 39: In Louisville, Ky., Asia Durr had 13 points and Louisville (28-2, 14-1 ACC) limited Virginia (16-12, 9-6) to 27 percent shooting.

No. 5 NOTRE DAME 89, VA. TECH 59: In South Bend, Ind., Arike Ogunbowale scored 26 points as Notre Dame (26-2, 14-1 ACC) beat Tech (17-11, 6-9).
