Flooring retailer on the rise
Floor and Decor plans July opening
Floor and Decor, an Atlantabased retailer focused on hardsurface flooring, is laying the groundwork for its first New Mexico store in Albuquerque.
Wilger Enterprises has been retained for the build-out of a future 75,000-square-foot store, confirmed a representative for the company on Thursday, identifying the flooring products chain as the eventual tenant.
Early stages of construction are now underway on a nearly five-acre parcel at McLeod Road and Pan American Freeway, launching a retail life for a vacant site where ABC Bonded Warehouses once was located.
As general contractor, Wilger will hire local subcontractors and suppliers for the project, said a Wilger spokeswoman. About 100 workers will be at the work site through the end of May. “We think Floor & Decor plans a July opening” of the business, which will be located at 4936 Pan American Fwy. NE, said Elizabeth Jeppesen, director of market relations.
Calls to Floor & Decor for comment Thursday were not immediately returned.
According to information gleaned from the home improvement retailer’s website, Floor & Decor, which was founded in 2000, caters to both DIYers and contractors. Its warehouse-style stores feature tile, wood, laminate and natural stone flooring, along with decor and accessories. The stores are stocked with rows of hard floor products, but no carpeting.
The company, which went public in April 2017, said it plans to have 400 stores nationwide within 15 years.
It currently has more than 70.
