Sales manager enjoys mentoring newcomers
When he was young, Tim Dominguez went from swinging a hammer to swinging contracts for the Red McCombs Automotive Group in San Antonio, Texas.
He even got to meet the flamboyant billionaire perhaps best known as a sports owner who at one time counted the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings and the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets among his vast holdings.
“He would come into our staff meeting and say ‘Hi,’” Dominguez recalled. “Whenever there were basketball games going on or whatever, he was very generous with the seats that he would give all of his employees. He made sure that they were well taken care of. He cared about them.”
It was same kind of thought process that Dominguez found so appealing about working with the Melloys.
“That’s what drew me to the Melloys,” he said. “They have the same kind of philosophy. They believe that we all work together and we should care about each other.”
Dominguez and his family recently moved back to Albuquerque after a 10-year stint in Farmington working for one of the Tim Dominguez, a native of Tucumcari, is the sales manager at the Fiat Alfa Romeo of Albuquerque dealership on San Mateo NE. Melloy dealerships in the Four Corners area.
But about a month ago he and his family moved back to Albuquerque so he could take over as sales manager for the Fiat Alfa Romeo dealership.
It’s a far cry from his first nervous days as a salesman some 30 years ago.
“A couple of times I was wondering if it was for me, but it started to grow on me,” Dominguez said of his start.
As a veteran manager, however, Dominguez tries to help the newcomers.
“I like the opportunity to serve and mentor,” he said. “I love teaching. With all of the training I have had over the years, it’s amazing; most people, they get trained, it’s like a Ph.D. or master’s. With the knowledge I have, I make sure I pass that forward to anyone who’s willing to learn and buckle down and work hard.”
