CALL FOR ARTISTS: The Placitas Artists Series invites all New Mexico artists and craft-people 18 years of age and older to submit three electronic images of their work and a completed applicatio­n form by March 31 in order to be considered by jury for a monthly exhibit during the PAS 32nd season, September 2018 through May 2019. PAS presents inspiring art and music in a welcoming venue located in the Placitas foothills. An opening artists reception is held on the day of each monthly concert. Artists selected by jury receive publicity and a year’s exposure on the PAS website, placitasar­tistsserie­s.org/visual-arts.htm. OPEN SPACE EXPLORER PACKS: Children and children at heart can stop by the Open Space Visitor Center to check out an Open Space Explorer Pack and experience the natural wonders we have to offer. The backpacks are intended to get families outside and in nature to learn about plants, animals, and cultural resources found within Open Space. Each backpack is filled with exciting self-guided activities. ABQ OPEN SPACE GALLERY: The Open Space Visitor Center Gallery Art Exhibition. The “Edge Effect” is the area where two things join and creativity occurs. In this exhibit, each Luna Project artist explores an area of “Edge Effect” in an Albuquerqu­e Open Space Lands property and responds. The show includes 2-D work, pottery, hanging sculpture and book arts. Luna Project artists are Ruth Cohen, Lauri Dickinson, Mary Dornacker, Cate Eaves, Nance Elsinger, Marta Light, Joani Murphy, Margy O’Brien, Nancy Rutland, Phyllis Benia Salazar, Kris Thacher and Alice Webb. MINERALS OF NEW MEXICO: The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science is installing a new exhibit in the Atrium mineral gallery. The minerals in this exhibit include representa­tives of the mineralogi­cal wealth and beauty of New Mexico. Many come from historic mining districts throughout the state. Also on display are unusual New Mexico mineral specimens such as smoky quartz crystals from Lincoln County, and an unusual blue halite specimen from the Carlsbad Potash District. NASA’S DAWN MISSION TO THE ASTEROID

BELT: A one-of-a-kind exhibit created and produced by the Dawn mission and this Museum. The exhibit explains the amazing discoverie­s made at the asteroid Vesta and dwarf planet Ceres with large, detailed wall panels, 3-D images and models of Ceres and Vesta, a model of the spacecraft, meteorites from UNM’s Institute of Meteoritic­s, and a video monitor showing computer animations from Dawn’s instrument­s.
