Misfits causing the most problems

-

IT’S NO longer finding the problem people. They find us. They are the ones stealing our cars, robbing our banks, committing heinous crimes and costing our Albuquerque society big money and pride. Something quirky in the gene pool reinforces the tug of war between good and evil.

The misfits are out there. If caught and convicted of a crime, our judicial system hopefully, sternly decides where and how they serve their punishment. Some are imprisoned, others released for time served in jail, some with ankle monitors and in New Mexico, all spared the death penalty. Perhaps the recently passed bond system will help decrease the need to deal with so many.

The differences between being mischievous and being a misfit are easily disguisable. By late high school though, most have been vetted through the school systems. Behavioral health professionals have probably been involved. Those with a mischievous nature will mostly mature to become productive members of society. Those deemed misfits should be isolated in a manner that protects the general population.

The colleges in our state should begin offering degrees in Misfitology and plan on having their first graduating class by 2022. The goal for the Misfitologists should be to design ways to keep the misfits from sucking the system dry as is being done now. If they cannot be cured, perhaps it is best to be institutionalized and kept away from the general population.

I wish our mayor and the City Council great success in finding solutions to these problem individuals, whether it be incarceration, intense education, suitable employment or placed in a misfitorium. Make something positive out of this phase Albuquerque is in. Taxpayers deserve better! JOHN KELLY Albuquerque
