Fishback’s walk-off blast lifts Aggies

LAS CRUCES — Mason Fishback hit a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning Saturday to lift New Mexico State (7-4) past Harvard 11-9 in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at Presley Askew Field. Chance Hroch pitched a scoreless 10th inning to earn the victory.

Harvard (2-5) rallied for three ninthinning runs off reliever Matthew Perea for a 5-4 win in the nightcap for their first win in the four-game set.

The series finale is today at noon. SOFTBALL: In Tempe, Ariz., Analise De La Roca pitched four innings for the win, and Kelsey Horton, Victoria Castro and Sarai Mejia homered for New Mexico State (10-6) in an 11-2, five-inning win Saturday over Coastal Carolina (12-7).

BEACH VOLLEYBALL: New Mexico fell 5-0 to No. 20 Washington to close the opening weekend of the season at 0-3 in tournament play in Tucson.

The Lobos have five returning players and seven newcomers who made their collegiate debut in the sport this past weekend.

UNM’s next outing is in Phoenix to play Grand Canyon, Abilene Christian and Grossmont in tourney play beginning Friday.

TENNIS: Colorado blanked the New Mexico State women 4-0 at the Linda Estes Tennis Center in Albuquerque. The Aggies fell to 4-7 and hosts UT-Arlington today in Las Cruces. Colorado (6-2) plays host New Mexico today at noon at the McKinnon Center.

GOLF: Both New Mexico and New Mexico State are competing at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Play begins with two rounds on Monday and another on Tuesday.

The spring season kicked off for the Lobos at the Rebel Beach Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev., last week, when the Lobos finished sixth in a 12-team field.

Lobos competing will be Ingrid Gutierrez, Alexandra Moisand, Darian Zachek, Reva Morris, Caroline Jansson and Emma Edwards.

The Aggies are coming off a 15th-place finish at the Bruin/Wave Invitational in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
