Several municipal elections will be held from Los Ranchos to Bernalillo

Political offices and, in some cases, bond issues are at stake today in municipal elections across the state, including these communities in the Albuquerque region:

RIO RANCHO: Incumbent Rio Rancho Mayor Greggory D. Hull is facing challenges from former mayor Thomas E. Swisstack and Christopher J. Muldrow.

Three council seats are on the Rio Rancho ballot.

In Council District 2, incumbent Dawnn Robinson is facing opposition from Andrea L. Padilla. Bob Tyler is the only candidate for the District 3 council seat now held by Cheryl Everett, who is not seeking re-election. In District 5, incumbent Councilor Jennifer Flor is running against challenger Paul Joseph Howell.

And incumbent municipal judge G. Robert Cook is facing a challenge from Raymond W. Montoya.

Also on the Rio Rancho ballot are two general obligation bond issues: $10 million for improving roads and $4.1 million for improving public safety facilities and improving or replacing public safety vehicles, apparatus and equipment.

CORRALES: In Corrales, Mayor Scott Kominiak is facing challenges from Michael Fleming, Jo Anne Roake and Chanda Vigil. Three village council seats are also on the ballot, but only one of those is contested.

Ennio Garcia-Miera, the incumbent in Corrales Council District 1, is not seeking re-election. Candidates for that seat are Kevin Lucero and James Ward.

District 3 Corrales Councilor Phil Gasteyer also decided against running for another term, but Mel Knight, whose name appears on the ballot as M. Lawlor Knight, is the only candidate for that position.

District 4 Corrales Councilor David Dornburg is running unopposed for re-election.

Corrales voters also will decide if the village should:

Impose a one-eighth of 1 percent increase in the gross receipt tax to make possible the issuance of up to $1 million in revenue bonds for improvements to roads trails, bikeways, pathways, bridges and drainage structures.

Issue up to $500,000 in general obligation bonds to purchase, build, equip or renovate public buildings and facilities.

Issue up to $1.5 million in general obligation bonds for fire protection and public

safety facilities and the purchase of vehicles and equipment for the fire and police departments.

Issue up to $2.5 million in general obligation bonds to acquire conservation easements for farmland preservation, open space, wildlife habitat and recreational uses.

LOS RANCHOS DE ALBUQUERQUE: In Los Ranchos, incumbent Robert John Maw is facing challenger David H. McMann in the race for municipal judge.

Two village trustee seats are also on the ballot but the only two candidates are incumbent trustees Donald T. Lopez and Pablo Rael.

BERNALILLO: Voters in the town of Bernalillo have nothing to ponder during their trip to the polls. Three offices are on the ballot, but the incumbent in each — Mayor Jack Torres and town councilors Tina Dominguez and Dale Prairie — are unchallenged.
