$10 million for Spaceport?

-

THE PETER PRINCIPLE basically says at some point people will reach their level of incompetence. An expenditure in the recently approved budget would suggest that this now applies to our Legislature. That expenditure just gave the Spaceport another $10 million!

Where do you suppose an influx of $10 million would be the best spent? How about our district attorney’s office to hire enough attorneys to clean up the huge backlog of crimes? Or perhaps salary increases for police officers to attract more qualified people to Albuquerque to reduce our crime rate? No doubt you could suggest several places where that money would truly help. But, if you’re like me, the Spaceport most likely might not be high on your list, if it even makes the list. But, that’s exactly where our Legislature apparently feels that money would be best spent! Sure, let’s give more money to a place that has more cobwebs from non-use than it has spacecraft. We already have seen millions of dollars spent on supposedly “must have” projects. Two of the biggest are the Railrunner and (the Albuquerque Rapid Transit) project. Money well spent? I believe you would be hard-pressed to find most people agree. So, why in the world are we giving another $10 million to (the Spaceport)?

Hopefully, the governor will line this item out so it can be better spent elsewhere.
