Unbeaten UConn wins AAC crown

No. 22 Green Bay rips Wright State

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Gabby Williams scored 19 points to lead No. 1 UConn to a 70-54 victory over 19th-ranked South Florida on Tuesday in the American Athletic Conference championsh­ip game.

Williams also had seven rebounds, six assists and five steals before exiting the game with just under 6 minutes left.

Tournament MVP Azura Stevens added 13 points for the Huskies (32-0). Kitija Laksa scored 26 points to lead South Florida (26-7).

HORIZON: In Detroit, Allie Leclaire scored 24 points and tied a career high with eight rebounds, and Jessica Lindstrom had her 41st career double-double as No. 22 Green Bay beat Wright State 62-44 for its fourth straight league tournament championsh­ip.

The Phoenix, winners of 11 straight Horizon tournament games, has claimed seven of the last eight titles and 16 of 21.

Lindstrom added 12 points and 14 rebounds, her 18th double-double this season, for topseed Green Bay (29-3).

Lexi Smith scored 14 points for No. 3 seed Wright State (23-10).

BIG EAST: In Chicago, Amarah Coleman scored a career-high 27 points as No. 2 seed DePaul routed topseeded Marquette 98-63 for the league’s automatic NCAA berth.

DePaul (26-7) made 16 3-pointers, one shy of a tournament record. Each Blue Demon starter finished in double-scoring after three quarters.

Amani Wilborn scored 12 points before fouling out early in the fourth quarter for Marquette (23-9).

WEST COAST: In Las Vegas, Nev., Jill Barta scored 32 points and hit six free throws in the final 43 seconds, helping Gonzaga beat San Diego 79-71 to repeat as conference champion.

Gonzaga (27-5) shut San Diego down in the third quarter on its way to a 16-point lead, but had trouble breaking the Toreros’ pressing and trapping defense in the closing minutes. San Diego (17-15) cut the lead to 73-66 with a 9-0 run, but ran out of time.

SUMMIT: In Sioux Falls, S.D., Macy Miller had 16 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals as South Dakota State snapped South Dakota’s 20-game win streak with a 65-50 victory.

Ellie Thompson added 14 points for South Dakota State (26-6). South Dakota dropped to 26-6.
