Carmel Sanchez

1928-2018 Carmel Sanchez, a resident of Belen, was gracefully reunited with her Lord, parents and siblings on March 5, 2018. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, where she attended daily Mass, was a lector, Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, and Catholic Youth Organization mentor. Carmel was also a member of the Adrian Dominicans and attended retreats and convocations in New Mexico and Michigan. Carmel retired from Sandia National Laboratories after many years of service, programming computers in the Human Resources Department. After her retirement, she traveled the world with her cousins, practiced new hobbies and enjoyed her free time. All who knew Carmel will remember the smile on her face and the dedication to her faith and family. She always had a kind word for others and provided help and support to those who needed it. Carmel was a strong, independent woman whose sense of humor brightened the room. For these things and more, she will remain in our hearts forever.

Carmel is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Sr. and Frances T. Sanchez; brother, Tony and wife Olie Sanchez; and sister, Speedy Lopez. She is survived by her niece, Geraldine SánchezCasaus and husband Greg; nephew, Dennis Sanchez; great-nephews, Anthony, Andy, Marc, and Dale; great-great-nieces, Amaya and Analisa; special cousins, Dolores, Pauline and Eloisa; her best friend, Helen Gallegos; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thank you to Helen, Ned, Richard and David at Lakeview Manor, as well as Ambercare Hospice for providing loving, kind, and compassionate care.

All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Friday, March 9, beginning with a Viewing at 8:30 a.m., Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a. m., and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
