SPEAK UP! !?!

ARMING TEACHERS to protect students is a stupid idea. Teachers are not trained or inclined to do so. I propose the NRA be required to provide two volunteers to be guards at the entries of all schools in the USA for all school hours. Let the NRA put its money where its mouth is. Let these good guys with guns protect our students. FD

SAFER SCHOOLS idea: No backpacks, no lockers, one textbook per class goes home with the student and stays there while another is on the classroom desk. Student carries one multi-section notebook for all classes plus pens/pencils. No bags to conceal weapons and less back issues from heavy backpacks. MBB

WATCHING THE new APS administration building being erected at Louisiana and Comanche, I have to wonder how many books, tablets or teachers’ salaries that money could have bought. With APS ranked low on so many lists, it seems that new leadership might be called for. AB

CAN ANYONE provide a legitimate reason why a private citizen needs an assault rifle? AR

WHY SHOULD the business being conducted at Spaceport America have this confidentiality support from our Legislature? It is tax dollars that are supporting it and all information should be open to the public and audit. Or else eliminate the taxpayer funding. MTJ

WHEN WE lobbied for the 18-year-old vote in the late ’60s, early ’70s, one fatal mistake was made. There should have been a caveat that one must be in the military with a valid ID card to vote before they are 21. The whole premise of the 18-yearold vote was 18-year-olds served in the military. JEH

RAISING THE age to legally purchase a firearm from 18 to 21 may show some merit. But as conservatives know, criminals do not buy their guns from a licensed dealer. They trade for a gun with drugs or steal one themselves. So once again, liberal, feel-good politics do nothing to solve the problem. RDH

GOT CAR insurance premium. Was going to call to ask why... per zero tickets/ accidents, it’s up 7 percent when inflation is only 2 percent, but pick up the Journal to read “Allstate report rates ABQ among least-safe cities for driving.” Thanks neighbors! BM

THE GUY who fixed the Solid Waste Department is unqualified to run Animal Welfare. No experience with shelter operations. Critical of staff and volunteers who bond with animals. Will we see trash bags of dead animals when he rids the shelter of the poor animals unlucky to be there over 90 days?
