Santa Fe National Forest seeks data, maintenance volunteers
Volunteers are being sought to help with projects on the Santa Fe National Forest. From trail maintenance to data collection, volunteers are needed for the following areas:
Wilderness rangers for the Pecos/Chama River/San Pedro Parks wildernesses. One weekend a month during the warm season, crosscut sawing, public engagement, and data collection.
Wilderness information specialists. Provide information at trailheads on wilderness education and answer questions.
Trail maintenance/construction, trash pickup, or get your employees together and adopt a trail: March 24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—Eight-mile round trip, biannual hike on Window Rock Trail along U.S. 84. It will include trash pickup as needed. March 31, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Clean up the beautiful, historic Rio del Oso. April 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—Trail work on the Cabra Trail near Los Alamos. Volunteers need long-sleeved shirts, long pants, above-ankle non-skid boots and leather gloves to protect them from terrain that can be thorny and rocky. Bring a backpack with a sack lunch, at least three quarts of water and sunscreen.
