Santa Fe National Forest seeks data, maintenanc­e volunteers

Volunteers are being sought to help with projects on the Santa Fe National Forest. From trail maintenanc­e to data collection, volunteers are needed for the following areas:

Wilderness rangers for the Pecos/Chama River/San Pedro Parks wilderness­es. One weekend a month during the warm season, crosscut sawing, public engagement, and data collection.

Wilderness informatio­n specialist­s. Provide informatio­n at trailheads on wilderness education and answer questions.

Trail maintenanc­e/constructi­on, trash pickup, or get your employees together and adopt a trail: March 24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—Eight-mile round trip, biannual hike on Window Rock Trail along U.S. 84. It will include trash pickup as needed. March 31, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Clean up the beautiful, historic Rio del Oso. April 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—Trail work on the Cabra Trail near Los Alamos. Volunteers need long-sleeved shirts, long pants, above-ankle non-skid boots and leather gloves to protect them from terrain that can be thorny and rocky. Bring a backpack with a sack lunch, at least three quarts of water and sunscreen.
