‘BIGGER’ SOUND

Rock band PVRIS touring in support of second album

Lynn Gunn is in Lawrence, Kan., for a stop on tour.

But before the performs, she’s searching for somewhere to eat with her band mates Alex Babinski and Brian MacDonald.

Gunn is part of the rock band PVRIS, which is on tour.

“It’s been great,” she says of the tour. “It’s been very relaxed, and it’s a good thing.”

PVRIS is touring in support of its sophomore album, “All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell,” released in August.

The journey to the second album took some time.

Gunn says it was important for the band to get everything right.

In July 2016, Gunn posted a photo on her Twitter account teasing the tracks to the album.

The trio then traveled to Utica, N.Y. where they recorded the album in an empty church.

Gunn says most of the work for the album was done in January and February 2017 as the band recorded the tracks and instrumentals.

“I think there’s a few different circumstances on this album,” she says. “One is we were in a different studio and had a little bit more resources. It translated over into a bigger sound. We always put the same integrity into writing good songs for the band.”

But there were some hurdles during the writing process.

“There were some days that I was in a weird spot mentally,” she says. “Some days were better than the others. We learned to just roll with what was happening and not force anything.”

Gunn says there was some pressure on the album because the trio wanted to up the ante from its debut album.

This is the reason Gunn and crew took their time in capturing the right songs.

Starting off with about 45 songs, it was narrowed down to 10 for the album.

Gunn says about half of the new songs are in the set list.

“It’s great to have more material on this tour,” she says. “The last tour could be difficult in putting together a strong set list.”

After the band’s current U.S. run is over, PVRIS will focus on a few festivals this summer.

“The vibe for each festival is different,” she says. “We take a look at everything happening and try and make the best show we can.”
