Irish-themed dinner opens St. Patrick’s Day events at The Downs

The St. Patrick’s Day festivitie­s open with an Irish-themed dinner on Thursday, March 15, in The Crown Room at The Downs Racetrack and Casino.

The special menu will be available from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dinner begins with Irish stew featuring mutton and vegetables in a bread bowl. Colcannon and corned beef make up the second course. The course features mashed potato, kale, black garlic, red cabbage, corned beef and a soda farl. Following a lemon and lime sorbet intermezzo is shepherd’s pie, made with ground lamb, mixed vegetables, Irish gravy, and piped potatoes. The dinner concludes with a white chocolate sphere featuring green clover mousse, white granache and mixed berries. The dinner is $49 per person. Celebrate Easter Sunday in The Crown Room, with brunch available from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 1. The brunch is $39 per person. Visit The Downs website for the special menu.

Head over to the First Turn Lounge for St. Patrick’s night fun. The lounge will feature plenty of drink specials, along with music by Fat City. There is no cover charge. But you don’t have to wait until March 17 for cocktails and dancing. Tonight, Saturday, March 10, and March 16 dance the night away to Fat City. Blu Sol performs March 23 and 24, and Gonzalo takes the stage on March 30 and 31. If you can’t wait until the weekend, the lounge hosts ladies’ night every Thursday. Get down to the sounds of Severo y Grupo Fuego on Thursday, March 15, and March 29, and Str8 Shot on March 22.

Don’t forget to bring your lucky charm with you to the gaming floor this March for a chance to win a new Ford Mustang. Earn entries all month to win the car or one of nine cash prizes. Amp up your chances every Tuesday, when players earn five times the entries, or stop by March 29 and 30, when patrons will receive 10 times the entries. Stick around and be present to win at 10 p.m. March 30.

Sundays through Fridays, three winners will be selected during each drawing as part of the “$125,000 Roll to Win.” Drawings will be held at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 p.m., and 10 p.m. Guests who are selected during the drawings have a chance to win up to $500 cash with the roll of the dice.

Get your chance to win cash or free play prizes ranging between $50 and $200 during the “$10,000 Saturday Cash” promotion. There will be four winners drawn at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 p.m., and 10 p.m. Earn 75 base points in the two hours before the drawing to qualify.

Senior players can now enjoy a new Friday promotion at The Downs. Players Club members ages 50 and older receive a virtual game to win $5 to $25 in free play when they earn one point on Fridays. Seniors also have a chance to win cash or free play prizes every two hours between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Fridays.

The Downs continues to appreciate its military patrons on Tuesdays. The promotion is valid for active and retired military members and their spouses. Register once at the Players Club with your active or retired ID. Each Tuesday, military players who earn one point automatica­lly have a virtual game appear on their machine for a chance to win between $5 and $25 in free play.
