SPORTS SPEAK UP!
THERE ARE LOTS of numbers in the Journal on Wednesday, but let’s keep it simple. The Athletic Department has somewhere around a $4.7 million accumulated debt most of which it wants forgiven, which results in UNM as a institution absorbing the losses somehow; and in the same edition tuition increases are being considered to raise around $1.67 million. I was never very good at math, but something doesn’t add up, right? — AGGIE #78/78
I SUPPOSE THE UNM athletic department deficit will need to be forgiven. Removing the red from the budget should also involve removing every single person involved with past budgeting including Regents. Wipe the slate clean, wipe the slate clean. — MarkSD
PLEASE GO WATCH our Lady Lobos play TCU in the Sweet Sixteen Round of WNIT (tonight) at the Pit. We beat a tough St. Mary’s lady team and were rewarded with a tougher Rice lady team. Watch coach Mike Bradbury teach with intensity and intelligence. Watch his three devoted associate/assistant coaches help the ladies execute Mike’s precise strategy and adjust it as the game proceeds. Watch three seniors who have given UNM and us fans everything we could ever ask for and a fourth senior who just had ACL surgery and who contributed valiantly. — Excited Superfan
GEE, IF THE Lady Lobos keep winning maybe someday they’ll earn a spot on TV. — Jack Bowers, Albuquerque
LOBO BASKETBALL
(MEN): Some of us have been waiting since 1963-1964 so please hurry. This year’s team — weak defense, too many turnovers and no real offense except to shoot 3s. If coach Weir wants to play full-court defense he should review Norm Ellenberger’s defense. Badly needed are better recruits as his two freshmen recruits killed the team with 3 air balls during the conference championship game! Again, still waiting. — Jonathan A. in Moriarty The WNIT championship game is to air on CBS Sports Network at 1 p.m. on March 31. — Randy, Journal
