Tampa Bay gets a needed pass rusher; New York will receive draft picks and clear some salary cap space for 2019.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Sending two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Jason PierrePaul to Tampa Bay for two draft picks gives the New York Giants much-needed salary cap space for 2019 and allows the Bucs to continue rebuilding a line that had the fewest sacks in the NFL last season.

With the unexpected trade announced Thursday, the Giants took another step in their rebuilding under new general manager Dave Gettleman and the Bucs upgraded their defense in a bid to end a decade-long playoff drought.

The Giants will get Tampa Bay’s third-round pick (69th overall) in the draft in late April. The teams also will swap fourth-round picks, with the Bucs moving up to the 102nd pick and the Giants going 108th.

MANZIEL: Johnny Manziel, a former first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns attempting a comeback from substance-related setbacks, attracted evaluators from up to 10 NFL teams Thursday morning while throwing to a pair of University of San Diego pass-catchers at the Toreros’ synthetic-turf practice field.

“It was fun,” Manziel told the Union-Tribune after throwing 37 passes.

Manziel, who developed a relationship with USD personnel through his San Diegobased QBs coach, George Whitfield Jr., said it was his most extensive performance with NFL staff present since his final game with the Browns, at Kansas City on Dec. 27, 2015.

Manziel, 25, said he has been working out in Los Angeles and is at his strongest and fittest, perhaps ever.

RAIDERS: The team said Thursday the total cost for the NFL team’s move to Las Vegas, Nev., including a new 65,000-seat stadium, training facility and headquarters, will cost more than $2 billion.

Team officials addressed the costs of the project with the public entity overseeing the partially tax-funded stadium being built across a freeway from the Strip. That venue has a price tag of $1.8 billion

REID: Free agent safety Eric Reid said Thursday he is not planning to protest during the national anthem this season.

“We understand you have to change with the times,” he said after watching his brother, Justin, take part in his Pro Day at Stanford. “I’m not saying I’m going to stop being active because I won’t. I’m just going to consider different ways to be active.”

Reid has gotten no contract offers more than a week into free agency despite his strong play on the field.

HURST: All-America defensive tackle Maurice Hurst has been given the OK by doctors to participate fully at Michigan’s pro day, The Associated Press reported. Hurst was held out of drills at the combine three weeks ago after doctors red-flagged a heart condition.

COWBOYS: Free-agent WR Deonte Thompson has signed a one-year deal. He joined the Cowboys on Thursday, a day after veteran linebacker Joe Thomas agreed to a two-year deal and was their first acquisition since NFL free agency opened last week.

DOLPHINS: Miami signed RB Frank Gore to a one-year deal, allowing the ex-University of Miami standout to end his career in South Florida.

EAGLES: Philadelphia agreed on a one-year contract with WR Mike Wallace, 31, who spent the past two seasons in Baltimore. He had 52 catches for 748 yards and four TDs last year.
