Romero a committed member of community

Through her work at bizMIX, she has had a truly positive impact

- BY HAJ KHALSA Haj Khalsa is a 25-year resident of New Mexico and founder of HANGTIME, a startup with a cellphone tether that clips onto clothes or bags.

I’ve gotten to know Andrea Romero through her work at MIX Santa Fe, specifically through their bizMIX program, Santa Fe’s only entrepreneurial accelerator program to help businesses “start up and stay up.”

Andrea is truly committed to her community, and has spent her time and effort on paying attention to where she can have the greatest positive impacts, and its been wonderful to see the fruits of her labor in working with her through the bizMIX program.

I was a participant in the 2012 bizMIX program, where I began honing my early entrepreneurial skills. The bizMIX program of today, since Andrea has been at the helm, has become a major player in entrepreneurship and shaping new local businesses. I have served as a mentor in the program since I went through it, and the program has only grown in quality and scope, providing critical resources for new businesses throughout Santa Fe County.

Through Andrea’s leadership at bizMIX, they have increased the pool of entrepreneurs in Santa Fe, as well as the critical educational, mentorship and startup resources needed to help businesses in their earliest stages. The work often goes unnoticed — who wants to help new businesses barely on their feet struggle to survive? Such fledgling dreams supported by bizMIX that turned into dynamic businesses include Paper Dosa, Shihan Fine Knives, Cacao Santa Fe, PERK, Paleteria Oasis, and my own new venture, HANGTIME. That’s means jobs and more jobs for Santa Fe.

Andrea’s support doesn’t stop at bizMIX. She’s an entrepreneur herself and has proven her grit, experience, listening abilities, integrity, work ethic and love of this community. She has always been there to discuss any entrepreneurial endeavor, big or small, and has been an asset to the small business community, not only for motivation, but for thoughtful inspiration and a whole lot of perspiration. She walks her talk with a big heart and helping hand, and would serve in any role just the same.

She’s now on a path for a State Representative seat in House District 46, and I can’t think of a better person who puts her love and intelligence into anything she pursues. She has my vote and will continue doing great things for our community.
