Sonja Schwartz
Sonja Schwartz, 89, received her gift of everlasting life with her Lord and Savior, Sunday, March 18, 2018, in the presence of her earthly treasure, her children. Born in Chicago, IL, January 31, 1929 to Swedish immigrants, Axel and Betty Hedlund, an only child, she grew up with a strong desire to be a mother. That desire was fulfilled raising four children with her husband, Henry Niblock, beginning in Sheboygan, WI and relocating to Albuquerque, NM in 1956, where she fell in love with the matchless blue skies, billowy clouds, watermelon sunsets, and temperate climate and has called home ever since. In the 70’s she served as the Postmaster of Cedar Crest and enjoyed many world travels with her husband, Robert Schwartz, especially to Sweden where her relatives reside. Sharing her Swedish heritage with her family, dancing with a Scandinavian Folk Dance club, square dancing, gardening, and fellowshipping with friends were her passions as she navigated retirement. Greeting a new day with a strong cup of coffee and the morning newspaper, she worked the crossword puzzle, acquiring a remarkable vocabulary and quick wit. She was an avid member of the Red Hat Society, serving as Queen of The Fiesta Sisters for ten years. Affectionately referred to as "The Stubborn Swede," she was fiercelyindependent, vivacious, and fun loving. She was known for her sparkling attire, always accentuated with a hat from her massive collection. She is survived by her four children: daughter, Linda Severeid, and husband, Gus; daughter, Dee Cappelle, and husband, Ron; daughter, Donna Russell, and husband, John; and son, Henry Niblock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Schwartz; and her beloved daughter-in-law, Karen Niblock. Mussy to six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. We love you, Mom. Dance! Please visit our online guestbook for Sonja at: www.FrenchFunerals.com
