Police have not released any more information after saying a man was critically injured in a shooting near a Northeast Albuquerque elementary school on Monday night.

APD spokesman Tanner Tixier said Monday after 8 p.m. officers responded to a shooting in the area of Domingo and Moon NE, near Hawthorn Elementary School, and found a man with “severe trauma.”

The man was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital in critical condition.

“The victim is still alive, but based on the severity of his injuries and his prognosis for recovery, the homicide unit will be leading the investigation,” Tixier said.

Tuesday afternoon, police spokesman Simon Drobik said the shooting is still under investigation. He did not give the victim’s age, identity, say what led to the shooting or any other details.

Domingo was closed from Erbbe to Moon late Monday, but by Tuesday afternoon, the streets were quiet and not a sign of the crime scene could be found.

Several neighbors said they didn’t hear gunshots and didn’t know anything had happened until officers were stringing up crime scene tape along the street while their vehicles crowded the intersection of Domingo and Moon.

The shooting comes on the heels of several homicides in which no suspects have been arrested. Police have also not identified three of the victims.
