Straight ticket will speed up process

-

SO THE REPUBLICAN candidate for secretary of state got some free publicity by having the Journal print her letter to the editor. Only trouble is nothing that she wrote had even a shred of truth to it.

I went to my local ward meeting and was voted to be a delegate to the Democrat Convention. I think of myself as a party activist in that I donate money and time to Democrat candidates of my choice.

At the state convention I saw many people who I know by sight but the names I am not familiar with. We give a nodding when passing and comment on who we are there to support.

At no time was I contacted by Democrat Party leadership although I did receive many phone calls from candidates before the convention. Nobody told me or anyone I know who we should vote for or who the party officially was supporting . ...

Now as to the straight party ticket voting. I see nothing wrong with it at all. Many voters know absolutely nothing about who is running, and the only indication of what they will get is the candidate’s party affiliation. Read the platform of that party and see if you agree of disagree with most of the platform. That is where you get the gist of what most of the active party members believe and are aiming for.

Nothing in being able to vote straight party precludes you from picking a candidate here and there on the ballot if that is you preference. If you already know that you will not now or ever vote for a member of the opposite party then why not speed up the voting process by just checking of one circle and getting the job done.

To insinuate that New Mexicans are too dumb to think for themselves is rather a low blow.
