Wilfred Otero, age 85, lifelong resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018 with his family by his side. Wilfred was born in 1932 in San Fidel, New Mexico, to Tranquilin­o and Clotilde (Tafoya) Otero. He attended Los Lunas High School and graduated from business school and attended courses at the University of New Mexico. Wilfred married Cecilia Dominguez in July of 1956 and together they had four children and were blessed with eight grandchild­ren. Wilfred and Cecilia enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Wilfred served one term as Valencia County Treasurer from 19601963. He retired from Sandia National Laboratori­es after 30 years of service. Wilfred was a devout Catholic and served as a member of the Legion of Mary and was a Third Order Member of the Franciscan Brotherhoo­d. He was dedicated to serving his community as a long time board member for First Choice Community Health Care. Wilfred was also an avid fisherman and he loved spending time at the lake with his grandchild­ren and brothers. Some of his treasured memories were watching his grandchild­ren play basketball, golf, volleyball and football. Wilfred is survived by his brother, Albert and wife, Flora, and their children; his son, Alfred and companion, Twyla; daughter, Bernadette and husband, Timothy; daughter, Jacqueline and companion, Oscar; son, Luke and wife, Darlene; grandchild­ren, Pamela and husband, Josh, Philip and wife, Stacey, Adam and wife, Sarah, Bryan and wife, Lesley, Samantha, Alyssa, Lucas and wife, Alyson, and Victoria; 18 great-grandchild­ren and many nieces and nephews. Wilfred was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Cecelia; and seven brothers and sisters. A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p. m. at San Clemente Catholic Church, 244 Luna Rd, Los Lunas, NM; a Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. A final visitation will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at San Clemente Catholic Church, 244 Luna Rd, NM, with Mass of Christian burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow services at San Clemente Cemetery in Los Lunas.
