Phyllis A. Whiteman

-

Phyllis A. Whiteman was born on the Fourth of July in 1928. She hoped to see her ninetieth birthday, but didn’t quite make it.

She passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 with a friend by her side. Phyllis was born to Marshall and Dorothy (Goldie) Whiteman in Menard County Illinois, near Springfield. As a young woman, she moved with her family to Chicago, where Phyllis became a legal secretary. Later in her career she worked for Harris Bank as a technical writer. During her life in Chicago, Phyllis wrote literary essays and a number of book reviews that were published in several different publications, including the Chicago SunTimes. In 1995, she retired and moved with her brother, Kenneth, to Albuquerque because of its magnificent climate and widespread art activities. Phyllis developed her talent as a painter and became active in the New Mexico Watercolor Society. She also enjoyed singing and sang with the Asbury Chancel Choir and the Bear Canyon Senior Center Beartones. In addition she loved acting with the Bear Canyon Senior Center theater group.

Phyllis is the last member of her family and will be dearly missed by all her friends. A memorial service will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, 10000 Candelaria Road NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87112 on Saturday, April 14, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Asbury.
