Percy, a 6-6 prep guard from Pasadena, made decision Saturday

UNM drastically reduces its ticket-revenue projections starting with 2018-19.

UNM made it official Wednesday, announcing via press release the signing to a National Letter of Intent of 6-foot-6 high school senior combo guard Tavian Percy for the Lobo men’s basketball team for the coming season.

“Tavian is a 17-year-old prospect who is not even close to reaching his full potential,” head coach Paul Weir said in the news release.

“We love his academic profile, his length, shooting ability and tremendous upside as a player. He knows our roster is experienced, but is willing to come and develop in our system. We look forward to his long-term success as a Lobo.”

Percy, originally from Miami but who is now attending Pasadena (Calif.) High School for his senior year, made his commitment to the Lobos official via his Twitter page on Saturday while he was in Albuquerque on an official recruiting visit.

“When I came on my visit to UNM, I knew it was the place I wanted to be,” Percy said in the UNM release. “Once I got to see the facilities and the Pit, I knew I was going to be a Lobo!”

Earlier this week, the program also announced for the first time the additions of local walk-ons Anthony Chavez of Valley High School and Jordan Arroyo of Atrisco Heritage Academy.

The Journal reported in January that Chavez, a 6-1 point guard, would join the Lobos.

“His athleticism and toughness are perfect on-court fits and both sides will work endlessly to make him a contributor to the Lobos,” Weir said this week of Chavez.

In February, the Journal reported Arroyo, a 6-7 forward, would also join the team.

“Jordan’s length and shooting ability are outstanding fits for the way we play,” Weir said of Arroyo this week.
