SPEAKUP! !?!

THE NEW Mexico oil and gas industry claims to fund 1/3 of the state’s revenue, but methane leaks account for $244 million in wasted gas and $27 million in state taxes and royalties. Washington is about to scrap the BLM methane capture rule. Let’s fight to keep it! MS

REGARDING THE article, “Tijeras Catholics Want Priest Gone,” I have mixed feelings regarding the discord of some of the parishioners. As an occasional visitor to the church for Sunday Mass, I enjoyed the service and especially the homilies given by Father Granito. I found him very charismatic. I also enjoyed the beautiful Spanish hymns. They definitely brought joy and spirituality. I would like the Spanish singing continued. LM

I THINK the mayor and City Council misunderstood the public cry “we need to cease out-of-control crime.” Instead, they heard “we want to greatly increase crime.” They acted accordingly. RDH

SO, ALBUQUERQUE has voted to remain an “immigrant friendly” city, does this mean as a business owner I don’t have to verify identification on incoming employees? Apparently proper ID is a non-issue in this state. CLH

WATCHING THE progun rights group march this weekend reminds me the participants are overwhelmingly white men looking for some reason to complain that they are being oppressed. No one wants to take your guns, but all of us should work for common sense gun laws that will make mass shooting less common and easy for the shooters. AP

AS LONG as a McDonalds salad costs $7 and the burger and fries are on the dollar menu, you can have all the rules you want about healthy eating and people will still go for the burger and fries. Want people to eat healthier? Put the salad on the dollar menu. BC

POPE FRANCIS said “caring for the migrants and the poor is as holy a pursuit as opposing abortion.” The Pope is a true Christian. CM

TO THE reader who thinks that he may end up with a Red Ryder BB gun, don’t you know you can put your eye out with that gun?

A simple pull of the trigger and you change someone’s life for the worse for a lifetime. Seems serious when you actually think about it. ERJ

JJ SAYS the students for gun control are being bullied for taking a stand. Disagreement is not bullying. Taking a stand always invites criticism. They entered the arena and they need to be willing to withstand the criticism because it goes with the territory, not whine about it. JB

MILLIONS OF taxpaying Americans often need financial help. We are bombarded with charitable contribution requests. Meanwhile, we sacrifice healthy young soldiers and hundreds of billions of dollars to police (to) save (others) from tyranny and rescue foreigners without the equal help from other freeworld countries. Charity should begin at home. JCG

YOU CAN hear the salivation in Santa Fe over more money. But I bet you dimes to donuts that we will only see more patches on N.M. 95 at Heron and El Vado lakes. Road shoulders are encroaching on the lanes center and previous “five-year” patches are breaking down. Hope the big cities enjoy their 10th resurfacing projects. GWT

YOUNG WOMEN at UNM are rightly expressing their concerns about two men exposing themselves. It is a kind of exhibitionism that has been around since Adam and Eve. I worked in three academic libraries in my working career, and this behavior was common at all of them. My most preferred response to these guys was to point and laugh. LL

I WONDER when the Journal (editors will) feel they have made payback to the ... liberals whining about the right-leaning political cartoon? ... (Almost) three months’ of cartoons portraying President Trump in a not-so-positive light. We, as conservatives don’t have time to protest. I think you have evened the score, though. RDH

WHEN I get up in the morning, pick up my paper, breathe the fresh air and hear a neighbor’s rooster crowing and watch a beautiful sunrise with a slight breeze “howling” through the trees, I LOVE IT! I am so thankful that I live in New Mexico! MKG

APRIL IS national Autism Awareness month. In recognition, and as a mother of a child with autism, I would like to briefly discuss autism. People on the spectrum are not stupid, slow or strange. Their brains operate differently. They deserve our respect, support and patience. Educate yourself. JJ

THANK YOU Albuquerque Journal for staying on top of the city’s egregious and unconstitutional vehicle seizure program. DB

A BIG hats-off-heartysalute to the men and women deputies of BCSO for their immediate, professional response with first aid for the victim as well as doing a great job on a rapid set up of well-placed perimeters which led to a perpetrator capture ... at the Rio Bravo/Isleta SW Albertsons’ tragedy. REPEAL THE Second Amendment. It’s time to make owning firearms a privilege and not an “inalienable right.” Since 1906, the “well-regulated militia” the amendment describes is defined as “the National Guard.” Not private shooting and drinking clubs, vigilante groups, or seditious anti-government associations, but the U.S. National Guard, where anyone carrying a gun has been trained and retrained in its responsible use and swears to protect and uphold the U.S. Constitution. ACCORDING TO Leon from Tucumcari, the red states that hate unions lead the nation in poverty, lower education, hunger and shorter life expectancy. Last time I checked, N.M. is almost No. 1 in all those issues and is smothered by the unions. Could it be that the unions are responsible for smothering advancement? JEH

AT THIS time we need a sane president. What I see is Democrats (and) the onesided media backing a very dangerous president in(to) a corner. He might see his only way out is by distraction. He is in a bad situation from every corner. Remember before it’s too late for all of us — he has a dangerous button some of us gave him. LB

I DON’T remember seeing Sean Hannity or any of the other “Fox and Friends” on the ballot in 2016, so why are we being governed by them? Sad! RLE
