RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished fourth in the nine-team Mountain West Conference Tournament that concluded Wednesday at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course.

“As a team we played well for 12 holes,” said UNM coach Jill Trujillo. “We couldn’t keep a solid round going on the back nine and if you look at our scores, all the trouble came on the back side each day.”

The Lobos finished 38-over 902 (298-300-304) over the course of the three days of play. Champion UNLV finished at 872.

The two Lobo seniors had an excellent tournament. Ingrid Gutierrez, tied for second after round one, finished at 3-over 219 (71-76-72) to tie for sixth place alongside San Diego State’s Georgia Lacey. UNM’s Alexandra Moisand tied for 10th at 4-over 221 (74-72-75).

Sophomore Reva Morris and freshman Caroline Jansson experienced their first MWC Tournament as Lobos and tied for 25th. Morris and Jansson totaled a final score of 16-over 232 (77-76-79). Teammate, junior Darian Zachek, was only three strokes over Morris and Jansson with her final score of 19-over 235 (76-81-78).

Next up for the Lobos is Friday’s end of season banquet.

In Phoenix, New Mexico State’s four-year reign as Western Athletic Conference women’s golf champions came to an end Wednesday — by a single stroke.

The Aggies finished at 17-over-par 869 (290-288-291) for the three-round, three-day event at the Legacy Golf Resort. Grand Canyon finished at 868.
