Lobo golfers in 9th at MWCs

UNM softball rallies past Utah State, hosts series finale today

BREMERTON, Wash. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team ended the second day of the Mountain West Championsh­ips in ninth place out of 11 teams.

The Lobos shot a 10-over 298 in round two on Saturday, putting them at a 17-over 593 total at the Gold Mountain-Olympic Course. Leader UNLV shot an even-par 288 for a 4-under 572 total. Colorado State holds second after a 5-over 293 (1-over 577 total).

Freshman Galven Green remains on top of UNM’s leaderboar­d after round two, shooting a 3-over 75 for a par-144 total. He’s in 11th place, nine strokes off the lead. UNM’s other players: Sean Carlon, 2-under 70 (3-over 147); Augustin Holé (75, 7-over 151), Gustavo Morantes (78, 152) and Andre Garcia (78, 154).

The final round begins today at 9 a.m. Garcia leads off for the Lobos at 9:40 a.m.

SOFTBALL: Cameryn O’Grady went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs as host New Mexico (12-30, 5-9 Mountain West) won 8-5 over Utah State (15-27, 5-12). UNM trailed 5-4 but scored four runs in the sixth — three coming when Utah State made two errors on a Chelsea Johnson liner to short. The series finale is today at noon at Lobo Softball Field.

■ In Orem, Utah, catcher Nikki Butler hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning as New Mexico State (24-20, 9-3 WAC) won 5-3 over host Utah Valley (16-23, 7-4). The Aggies squandered a 6-0 lead in game two of the doublehead­er and fell 7-6.

TENNIS: At the McKinnon Family Tennis Center, Air Force’s Elizabeth Barnickel won a 9-7, third-set tiebreaker over UNM’s Yue Lin Chen, delivering the Falcons (146, 1-4 MWC) a 4-3 victory over the Lobo women (9-10, 2-3).

BEACH VOLLEYBALL: In Tucson at the Bear Down Bash, New Mexico fell 3-2 in its season finale to Utah. UNM’s Eastyn Baleto and Lauren Twitty won at No. 2, and Baleto finished her career with 66 wins, most in the brief history of the sport at UNM.

BASEBALL: In Greeley, Colo., Trey Stine had a two-run double in the top of the 11th inning, and he was one of six Aggies who drove in two runs each as New Mexico State (25-14, 10-4) won 12-9 over WAC foe Northern Colorado (21-18, 5-9).
