BASEBALL BLUE GRIFFINS FALL:

No. 15 seed Santa Fe Prep played No. 2 Estancia for four innings before things fell apart in the fifth. Trailing 3-1, the Blue Griffins (6-15) gave up 11 in the fifth to fall 14-1 in the Class 3A state tournament opening round.

TRACK & FIELD GOING FOR GOLD:

In the small school state championsh­ips held today and Saturday at the University of New Mexico Track and Soccer Complex, local athletes hold the top times or distances in numerous events and are looking for gold medals:

Class 3A boys: Isaiah Armijo, Pecos, 3200-meter run, 10 minutes, 25.74 seconds; Sean Coles, Santa Fe Prep, high jump, 6 feet, 2 inches. 3A girls: Taylor Lincoln, Santa Fe Prep, 100-meter dash, 12.84; Santa Fe Prep, medley relay, 4:36.87; Hayden Colfax, Santa Fe Prep, high jump, 5-2, triple jump, 36-11.

2A boys: Andres Blea, Escalante, 110-meter high hurdles, 16.14. 2A girls: Abrianna Griego, Mesa Vista, 400-meter dash, 1:02.64, 200-meter dash, 27.04; Escalante 4x100 relay, 52.74.

1A boys: Ryan Johnson, Roy, shot put, 40-07.25; Deven Thompson, New Mexico School for the Deaf, shot put, 47-6; Gabriel Garcia, Springer, javelin, 158-9. 1A girls: Zoe Salazar, Cimarron, javelin, 10301; Angel Gonzales, Cimarron, pole vault, 8-0; Alicia Arias, Springer, discus, 108-7.
