A suspect is behind bars after police say he fired three shots across an apartment complex parking lot Thursday, nearly hitting a father and his two children.

Samuel Reichman, 21, is charged with shooting at or from a motor vehicle, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated burglary and two counts of child abuse.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court, officers were dispatched to a “shots fired” call at the Villa Esperanza apartment complex, near Comanche and Carlisle NE, where police found a car with a bullet through its back passenger door.

The car’s owner told police he was getting his two children out of the car when a man, later identified as Reichman, pointed a handgun at him.

Officers pulled over Reichman nearby shortly after, finding a pistol with an extended magazine in the car.

During the investigation, police found out Reichman and four others had “forced” their way into an apartment at the complex looking for a man named “Capo.”

Police say the men went to Capo’s apartment and pounded on the door.

Capo’s 16-year-old brother told police when he opened the door, Reichman swung at him before all four men pushed their way inside and searched through the home.

During questioning, Reichman told police he went to the complex trying to “fight” Capo, was “polite” to his younger brother and didn’t do anything to “intimidate” him.

Police say as the men were leaving the complex they saw Capo in the parking lot and Reichman pulled out a gun before firing off three rounds.

Reichman told police he was only trying “to warn Capo” and thought he fired into the air.

Police say Reichman saw the man and his two children before firing his gun and he was unaware he hit the father’s car.
