HISTORY OF PLANS FOR APS’ LOWEST-PERFORMING SCHOOLS

-

The Public Education Department announces Los Padillas, Whittier, Hawthorne elementary schools are in need of "more rigorous intervention" or MRI and outlined the districts' options.

APS' plans are denied by PED and the district is asked to resubmit. PED had said the submissions didn’t significantly redesign or restructure the schools in every way.

APS' plans to restructure and improve the three worst-performing schools are approved by the APS Board of Education to submit to PED.

APS responds to the state department's conditional approval. The district accepts but with terms of its own, saying it has the right to stop or change implementation of the plan if needed.

PED conditionally approves plans to restructure and redesign Los Padillas and Whittier, while requiring "champion and provide choice" for Hawthorne.
