SPEAK UP! !?!

Speak Up Rules

-

If you want to gripe, grouse, whine or bellyache about a generic topic, submit your message at www.abqjournal.com/letters/speakup. The same goes if you want to dish out praise or thanks. Either way, you have to do it in 50 words or less. You can’t identify anyone you criticize. Keep it clean. No cursing, please. We don’t need your name, just initials. And it’s cheaper than therapy.

RE. MAN charged with prostituting 7-year-old daughter. Please dear God move this case out of Albuquerque so maybe a judge outside Bernalillo County won’t impulsively release him on his own recognizance with a “promise” to appear and not commit any more crimes. BC

POSTAL SURVEY — Residential mailbox, letters only, April 2018: Non-profit pieces, 81, average rate $0.13 plus permit fee (78 B pieces in 2017, about half the total USPS volume); 23 first-class, presorted pieces, average rate $0.41; total weight 5.8 lbs. Ironically, one at full first-class rate, a thank you note. HM

BASED ON (Congressional candidate and former U.S. attorney) Damon Martinez’s analysis of political appointments, if (Michelle) Lujan-Grisham wins as governor, any replacement of Susana (Martinez)’s political appointees would be “firing” them and, according to Damon Martinez, would be improper/ illegal. Good news for the PED chief and other political appointees of the current governor. BC

TO ALL those parents who send their children to private schools: Clearly you have more money than the average New Mexico resident. You should stop whining about the state paying for your child’s textbooks and buy your own. JG

OUR BERNALILLO County Clerk ran for office promising to add more polling locations, basically saying that the voting “convenience centers” aren’t. While casually perusing the letter she sent out to ... voters, I noted there are actually fewer vote centers (the early sites plus the election day sites = 68), down by one, compared to the last major election. Also, how come the Journal’s online 2018 election website does not have any information on the “qualified” write-in candidates? DD

IT SEEMS that America and Trump are the ones who actually violated the terms of the Iran Nuclear Pact, so how does that make the Iranians the “bad guys”? Wait for Plan B, Ha Ha Ha! RLE

WHY DOES it take Judge (Alisa) Hart three days to have a hearing to determine whether monsters who prostituted their own child should be kept in custody? This should be a 3-minute hearing, if there was ever someone who deserved to never see the light of day, it’s those two. Hart epitomizes the problem of bending over backward to find a way to protect them! BC

APPARENTLY THE “Art of the Deal” is to back out of any prior agreement. Wow ... what a concept! JL

THE MAYOR is asking the public to help fix the crime problems? Ha, until you make criminals accountable for their crimes and fix a broken judicial revolving-door system, us taxed-out citizens can’t do a thing. I will support a fundraiser to build more prisons here in N.M. and a 3-strikes-you’re-out (law with teeth), would that help? CLH

YOU KNOW, I am about scared to death anymore to mail anything out of the Rio Rancho post office. AVP JOURNAL 5/13, P.A13, LFC report “found little evidence of a correlation between school performance and per-pupil federal funding.” P.A14 Journal editorial advocates for millions more for pre-K. Education is a culture that starts at home. Look at the Dakotas, a much better record of achievement than N.M., but they spend much less on their schools. RB

WHEN WILL candidates for the 1st Congressional District and related pollsters realize not everyone living in zip code 87114 is in that district? I have received phone calls from candidates or their reps and from polling companies regarding candidates in that district. Some of us are in District 3. Waste of time and money. SR

EVERY AMERICAN — and especially every American Jew — should loudly and emphatically condemn, in no uncertain terms, Israel’s brutal atrocities against the Palestinian protesters. Shameful! RE

FYI, WHEN attending an event at the zoo such as the Sunday Mother’s Day concert, a little-known law says you must be at least 3 inches from a driveway if you’re parking on one of the side streets. We could have use an informative warning instead of a $35 ticket. Nice money maker. WB
