AT BOOKWORKS: Irene Fertik will talk about “From Tesfa to Tikva, photos of Ethiopian Jews” at 3 p.m. today. Fertik has been working on this project since 1991, documentin­g Ethiopian Jews in their new/ancient home of Israel. The title of the book, “From Tesfa to Tikva,” means from hope to hope — the first word in Amharic, the other in Hebrew. Both in photos and text, Fertik chronicles the story of 25 years of change and transition.

Rick Eckstein will discuss “How College Athletics Are Hurting Girls’ Sports: The Pay-To-Play Pipeline” at 6 p.m. Monday, May 21.

More girls are playing sports than ever before — which, on the surface, is great for girls, because sports offer positive and empowering fun for young women. In reality, though, few young athletes report “fun” as a reason they play sports. Ebony Isis Booth will talk about “Grinning and Bare, New Poetry” at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 24.

Dean Falk and Eve Penelope Schofield will discuss “Geeks, Genes, and the Evolution of Asperger Syndrome” at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 26.

In this unusual book, an evolutiona­ry anthropolo­gist and her coauthor/ granddaugh­ter, who has Asperger’s syndrome, examine the emergence and spread of Asperger’s syndrome and other forms of high-functionin­g autism.
