Favre says he went to rehab 3 times to fight addictions
Rodgers says he doesn’t expect Packers to sign free agent WR Bryant
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Retired quarterback Brett Favre says he made three trips to rehabilitation centers during his Hall of Fame career to fight his dependence on painkillers and alcohol.
Favre told Sports Illustrated he took as many as 14 Vicodin at one time during the 1995 season in Green Bay. Favre won the first of his three consecutive Most Valuable Player awards that season.
“It is really amazing, as I think back, how well I played that year,” Favre said. “That was an MVP year for me. But that year, when I woke up in the morning, my first thought was, ‘I gotta get more pills.’”
Favre said his issues with pills caused him to spend 28 days at a center in Rayville, La., in the early 1990s. Favre also says he spent 28 days in rehab “strictly for drinking” in 1998. The story also mentions a previously reported 72-day stint at a Kansas City rehab center in the mid-1990s to get off Vicodin.
DEZ BRYANT: It doesn’t look like Dez Bryant is going to become a member of the Green Bay Packers. On Tuesday, the team’s QB, Aaron Rodgers, told reporters that while he doesn’t make roster decisions, he doesn’t expect the Packers to add Bryant.
Last week, Jason Witten, an exDallas tight end turned Monday Night Football analyst, guessed that Bryant would ultimately end up playing for the Packers in 2018.
EAGLES: Philadelphia have released starting linebacker Mychal Kendricks after six seasons with the team.
Carson Wentz was back on the field throwing passes less than six months after knee surgery ended his season. The Pro Bowl quarterback wore a brace on his surgically repaired left knee and tossed passes to assistant coaches and ballboys as the Super Bowl champions kicked off organized team activities on Tuesday. .
JETS-RAIDERS TRADE: New York traded QB Christian Hackenberg to Oakland for a conditional seventh-round pick next year.
CHARGERS: Los Angeles TE Hunter Henry tore an anterior cruciate ligament during practice, likely sidelining him for next season. Henry, a second-round pick in 2016, had 45 receptions for 579 yards and four TDs last season.
