Lorela Eunice Huckaby

-

Lorela Eunice Huckaby, 99, of

Las Vegas, NV and formerly of Albuquerque died April 1st,

2018 at her home. Eunice was born

June 14, 1918 in Fisher County,

TX to Louis Cass Poteet and Eunice Spivey Poteet. She was the ninth of 10 children.

Eunice committed her life to Jesus at a young age, and happily followed him the rest of her life.

She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Hobbs High School. On June 11, 1941, she married her sweetheart, Hubert Huckaby in Reno, NV. Mother had not traveled out of Texas, but she rode a bus to Salinas, CA so she and Hubert could go to Reno to be married. This marriage produced two daughters, Carolyn Kay and Judy Marlene.

The family moved to Albuquerque where Hubert worked for Civil Service. Hubert died in 1951 from injuries incurred during the battle of Okinawa. Eunice then started working at the Bank of New Mexico, which later became Wells Fargo. She was promoted to teller at the Kirkland AFB branch, and was a dedicated employee for 25 years. She was a favorite of many of the customers of the bank. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling to Europe and many US states, and being more active in her church.

In 2006 she left Albuquerque to live in Las Vegas near Kay. There is no truth to the rumor that she intended to become a Vegas show girl. Eunice resided in Las Vegas until her death.

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, all her siblings, and her son-in-law, Tom Yeley. She is survived by her children, Carolyn Kay Yeley of Las Vegas, Judy Schroeder (Glenn) of Twin Falls, ID, four grand-children, Scott of Las Vegas, Wayde (Cheryl) of Las Vegas, Stephanie Huntsinger of Nampa, ID, and Heather Schroeder of Boise, ID. She was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Haley Winks of Syracuse, NY, Christian Humes of Boise, ID, Caden and Riley Huntsinger of Nampa, ID, and Santino of Las Vegas. She is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Mother said her service is to be a celebration of life, and she wants every- one to wear bright colors. The memorial service will take place at the Holiday Park Church of the Nazarene, 11435 Montgomery Blvd NE 87111 on June 16, 2018 at 10:30 AM. Because a great-grandchild of hers is diabetic, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eunice’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at https:/www.2jdrf.org
