LSU to face Ole Miss; Aggies in WAC final
HOOVER, Ala. — Zach Watson hit a two-run homer in the sixth, and Zack Hess allowed only one hit in seven innings, leading LSU to a 2-1 victory Saturday over Arkansas in the Southeastern Conference tournament semifinals.
The defending champion Tigers (37-24) will play for their 13th SEC tournament title today against Mississippi, which eliminated Texas A&M 2-1 on Saturday.
ACC: In Durham, N.C., Rhett Aplin’s RBI single in the top of the ninth inning helped Florida State beat Clemson 5-4 and advance to the tournament championship game today against Louisville.
WAC: In Mesa, Ariz., No. 3 New Mexico State and Sacramento State were tied 3-3 through 10 innings of a championship bracket game at Hohokam Stadium as the Journal went to press.
The Aggies came into Saturday night unbeaten. If the Aggies lost, an “if” game in the double-elimination tournament is set for 1 p.m. today.
MOUNTAIN WEST: In San Diego, second seed and host San Diego State defeated No. 4 seed UNLV 14-5 on Saturday night to capture the league tournament title. It is the Aztecs’ fifth in six years. UNLV beat No. 3 seed San Jose State 9-2 on Saturday afternoon in the losers’ bracket, setting up a championship bracket game matchup.
