Larry Buchmiller
From a one room schoolhouse in rural Illinois, to Princeton and Michigan Law School, to forming his own company Security Escrow Corporation, Larry Buchmiller’s life was full, unique and above all full of loving relationships and service to his community.
Larry passed peacefully May 8th, 2018, surrounded by his wife Lilly, daughter Kerri, son Lance, granddaughters Mikaela Schilling & Brianna Reinke, and close friend Shawn Shetter. He is also survived by grandsons Nic Reinke & Kyle Buchmiller.
Larry & Lilly were married in Albuquerque in 1962. After completing his law degree and serving as an officer in the U.S. Army for two years, the couple moved back to Albuquerque in 1965.
Larry began his career at a local law firm, later moving on to be Director of the Drug Abuse Education Center in Albuquerque. Larry served twice as President of the La Sala Grande Neighborhood Association. He was a member of Kiwanis and the Elks, and served on the board of the Boy Scouts of America. An Eagle Scout and local troop leader himself, Larry saw his son Lance and grandson Kyle both become Eagle Scouts.
He was a lifelong athlete, playing basketball, tennis and golf. He also enjoyed holography, rock hounding, cooking, gardening and listening to classical and jazz music.
A celebration of Larry’s life is planned for later in the summer. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Boy Scouts of America or any charity of your choice.
