Muriel V. Harris

-

Muriel Virginia Harris, known to her friends and family as "Ginny,

Gigi, or Gramma Ginny", passed away peacefully on Wednesday,

May 30, 2018 in Albuquerque,

NM at the age of

100. She was preceded in death by husband, Mort, and her son Richard. She is survived by her sons Ronald and David, her daughters-in-law Brenda and Ilene, four grandchildren and their spouses, and nine great-grandchildren, ages eight to 22.

Ginny was born September 29, 1917 in Petaluma, CA, grew up in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, married in 1938, and raised three sons. She and her family relocated to Los Angeles in 1961, but returned to the Bay Area in 1972 soon after the death of her husband. In 1982 she settled in Albuquerque to be close to her oldest son Ron and his family. She maintained her independence, cooking for herself and driving here and there until she was 99 years old. Always true to the spirit of her minister father and grandfather, she became a member of St. Stephan’sMethodist Church.

As a witness to 100 years of tumultuous world events, Ginny developed a keen interest in politics, but always found comfort in following her far flung family adventures. After her retirement from retail management, she traveled across the United States, cruised the Mediterranean, and vacationed in Hawaii. She loved to read, sew, play poker, work crossword puzzles, and root for the San Francisco Giants. In fact, the Giants provided one of her greatest thrills when she was honored at AT&T Park last August with a live message board tribute and ovation from over 40,000 fans in attendance.

Ginny lived independently right up to her final days. Her secret to longevity? A nightly scotch on the rocks and a pioneer-like approach to life.

Ginny will be interred at the Hills of Eternity in Colma, CA along side her beloved husband and youngest son.
