‘Love Story’ star to host screening
Tesuque’s Ali MacGraw headlines El Paso event
New Mexico resident Ali MacGraw’s star rose with the 1970 film “Love Story.”
The romantic drama will be screened Aug. 3 at the Plaza Classic Film Festival in El Paso. On Aug. 4, MacGraw will also be at the festival to present the 1972 Sam Peckinpah classic, “The Getaway,” starring Steve McQueen.
The actress, author and activist will sign autographs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 4 in the El Paso Community Foundation’s Foundation Room, 333 N. Oregon, El Paso.
MacGraw received an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe Award for her performance as Jenny Cavalleri in “Love Story” — her second movie.
She worked for Harp- er’s Bazaar magazine and fashion photographer Melvin Sokolsky before making her film debut in “Goodbye, Columbus.” “The Getaway” was her third film. She also starred in “Convoy,” “Players” and “Just Tell Me What You Want,” as well as TV’s “The Winds of War” and “Dynasty.”
The longtime Tesuque resident has been recognized for her advocacy work in the New Mexico community and was honored as a “Santa Fe Living Treasure.”
MacGraw is the author of “Moving Pictures” and helped create the instructional video “Yoga Mind & Body,” filmed at White Sands National Monument in New Mexico.
She is known for her work on behalf of social, animal and environmental causes, and is an ambassador for Ibu Movement, which benefits women cooperatives around the world.
She received the New Mexico Governor’s Award in 2008 for her contributions to the arts.
