Fire in Rio Rancho covers two acres

- JOURNAL AND WIRE REPORTS

Firefighters tackled an approximately 2-acre fire in Rio Rancho’s Willow Creek Open Space near the Rio Grande Tuesday afternoon, a spokesman for the Fire Rescue Department said.

RRFR Deputy Chief Paul Bearce said that around 2:20 p.m., reports of smoke and flames in the open space south of U.S. 550 were called in to the dispatch center. He said firefighters used a bulldozer to form a line around the fire and contain it.

Bearce said multiple agencies, including the Corrales Fire Department, Sandoval County Fire Department, and Albuquerque Fire Rescue, helped Rio Rancho Fire Rescue.
