Marjorie V. Newton

Marjorie V. Newton, 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 2, 2018 in Albuquerqu­e, NM. She was born on October 7, 1923 in Geddes, SD. Marjorie was the youngest of six children.

Marjorie married her husband, Don, in Sioux City, IA on May 25, 1943 where they later settled after Don returned from his service in WWII. After her husband’s retirement, the couple worked together part time at various events at the Sioux City Auditorium and the Orpheum Theater.

Marjorie was a founding member of Westlawn Presbyteri­an Church where she served as an Elder, a Deacon, and as an officer in the Mariners, and was active in Presbyteri­an Women (PW). After moving to Albuquerqu­e in 2004, Marjorie became a member of Shepherd of the Valley Presbyteri­an Church. She enjoyed working at the bake sale at the annual Chile Fest.

Marjorie was an avid gardener and enjoyed putting puzzles together. She loved traveling with her husband in their motor home and spending time with her children, grandchild­ren, and friends.

Marjorie is survived by her sons, Dennis L. Newton and Derald W. Newton and his wife, Wendy; her grandchild­ren, Donald C. Newton III, Michael Newton, Michelle McClain, Melanie Glasrud, Renee Gozzoli, Mattias Newton, Amy Newton, David Newton, and Darin Newton; nine great grandchild­ren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Mattias Lindgren; her husband, Donald C. Newton; four sisters, Pauline Lindgren, Ina Lindquist, Hilma Ball, and Ella Shroll; her brother, Alvin Lindgren; her son, Donald C. Newton II; and her daughter, Vivian NewtonCrof­ts.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyteri­an Church, 1801 Montano Rd.
