UP! SPEAK !?!

-

A BIG thank you to the person who turned in a silver Men’s Seiko watch at the Snap Fitness on Tramway and Indian School. Nice to know that there are still good people out there! OR

FOR THE individual who wrote people who send their children to private schools should stop whining: The “rich folks” also pay property taxes, GRT, income taxes, etc. I sent my children to non-parochial private schools and never was wellto-do. It is a matter of priorities: drive an old car, never go out to eat, wear older clothes.

CL SOMEONE PLEASE tell Sen. Tom Udall that President Trump’s tax returns are none of his business. Nor ours.

JEH OUR DEMOCRATIC senator made a fool out of himself in the hearing with Secretary of State (Mike) Pompeo. He showed his ignorance and irrelevance. New Mexicans deserve better! ABP

ALMOST FELL out of my chair in laughter when I saw a news item on the Obamas signing a contract to do story telling! From most people’s perspective they’ve been telling stories since at least 2006, so they are well versed at it.

JEH WHEN WILL the Journal realize that the success behind AIMS is the involved parents that participate in their child’s education. If all parents stepped up maybe the teachers could quit being blamed for and expected to fix all of society’s woes.

DAK IF REP. Javier Martinez spent half as much time on education and crime as he proposes to do on recreational marijuana, maybe N.M. would be able to finally move out of last place on issues of substance. No wonder nothing ever gets done in the legislative sessions.

RLH I CAN’T tell you how reassuring it is just to know how all these Democrats are all fighting for me — NOT! CJ

THANK YOU Paul Moya for positive campaigning! Fair delineation of problems, well-thought-out solutions, and an attitude of working with other lawmakers to advocate for New Mexico are what we need. The comprehensive solutions you offer in your column “It’s Time …Excellence in our Schools” (Journal June 2) stop blame games. MBL

(Krueger): 1. It was an Obama, not Trump, policy to separate children from parents who are being charged with criminal-entry. The parent(s) are being charged with a crime, and that’s why they are being separated. By your logic is it also “cruel” to arrest any person for a crime — rape, murder, drug dealing — if it means separating them from their children? BC

THE COURTHOUSE

Downtown is FREEZING! Who pays the utilities? County? State? Oh — we do! Taxpayers being fleeced again. JP

SECRETARY OF State Maggie Toulouse Oliver is wrong. No voter is “forced to watch from the sidelines” during primary voting. Some “CHOSE not to be affiliated”— her words. Took me 3 minutes to change my party registration online so I could vote the party ballot of my choice. Everyone can do the same, easily. RM

MY VIEW of the expected summit meeting with North Korea: Kim will get a long list of sanctions to be removed and Trump will get his picture in the newspaper. BB

Q: WHAT do you call a room full of New Mexico judges? A: A UNM Law School reunion. AS

LIKE PHIL Robertson of “Duck Dynasty” on A&E, Roseanne Barr was hired by ABC because she’s an obnoxious idiot, and was fired for the same reason. THC

ELECTION TIME again. Have a question again. In order to vote one must be a citizen. To become a citizen one must have a working knowledge of the English language. If this is so, tell me why the ballot is printed in any language other than English. WJK

MY REMOTE mute button is wearing out. First it was pharmaceuticals, now it’s political ads. You would think we are in the Soviet Union with all the progressive ads. Just think of all the homeless that could be helped with the money spent on these ads. GWT

WE ARE transplanted Californians. We love New Mexico. But we will never understand sentencing in this state. One person gets 10 years for killing someone in a drunken driving crash — unintended death — while another person gets 3 years for killing someone in a shooting — intentional death.

DF NOT EVERYONE loves dogs. Some are allergic or afraid. Can’t I enter any public establishment without pooches, some unleashed — not even food establishments?

KM I’M TIRED of hearing experts can’t figure out why so many pedestrian fatalities in ABQ. Instead of reading about safety features at crossings, they should watch pedestrians cross against the light, cross by weaving through traffic 100 feet from the intersection, and talk or text while crossing. Experts might learn something about ignorant people walking and just not paying attention! MBB

NRA PROTEST. Why the press space? Only “about” 30 people attended. More people show up for children’s soccer games. CB

(REP.) YVETTE Herrell claims to be a “fiscal conservative” and a “Trump conservative.” Sorry Ms. Herrell, this administration proves you can’t be both. TF

ART AD nauseam. Traffic on Central from Rio Grande to Coors is chaotic at best, dangerous at worst. Yes, our governing fathers are going to train us to try to maneuver thru ART safely. What about the thousands of tourists that visit Old Town, zoo and Botanical Gardens? Scary! KR

SO, ONE person promises to drain the swamp, and the other person’s job is to protect the swamp, where’s that going to lead? JW

ANY TIME any adult finds blood stains in any child’s underpants, that child should have immediate medical attention. The child may be sick. The child may think what is happening to him/her is normal. If CYFD and APD can’t figure that out, they should be fired on the spot. DZH

THE DOUBLE standard in our country is breathtaking. A comedian, Roseanne Barr, is fired, then erased from the earth for making a political joke. Meanwhile, (on the) same network, Jimmy Kimmel spews venom and hate nightly directed at our elected president, his family and anyone with conservative views, and is lauded by every liberal in the country. The entertainment industry and the mainstream media are dead!

RDH EIGHTY-THREE percent of the GOP/Trump tax cut goes to corporations and the top 1 percent, unpaid for, thus adding to the national debt. That $1,250,000,000,000 will have to be paid at some future date. Who believes that 83 percent of that debt will be paid by corporations and the top 1 percent? Instead, Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security benefits will be reduced for the 99 percent. The top 1 percent should have paid more taxes instead of less, as most of the gains of the past 30 years have been pocketed by the rich. The president made millions from this debacle, thus explaining the smile on his face. JL

THE ELDORADO High School gym for election voting is a bonehead decision. Far from handicapped parking and a walk to get to, it has an $800,000 new wood floor that’s getting scratched up. This is not rocket science. Why didn’t Bernalillo County and the Eldorado principal decide on the Eldorado cafeteria for voting, just feet from the parking lot? DUH? NM

THANKS TO our Glorious Leader President Trump, I’m now more worried about Canada lobbing missiles our way than I am about North Korea. LWG

THE MORE that comes about ART its clear it was way worse than those of us opposed to it ever could have imagined. (Mayor Richard) Berry may be gone, but the city councilors who rammed it through and then provided no oversight whatsoever are still there and need to be called to account. BC
