LAUGH LEADER

30 comedians to perform in show at Rio Bravo Brewing

- BY ADRIAN GOMEZ JOURNAL ARTS EDITOR

Kevin Kennedy always takes risks.

It’s in his nature.

For his latest endeavor, the comedian wanted to do something he’s never seen before — book 30 comedians in one night.

“I wanted to see if I could put 30 of them together, and I did it,” he says. “We only have one day to put on the show.”

Kennedy runs Headliners Comedy, which is celebrating its first anniversary of performances at Rio Bravo Brewing Co.

Kennedy didn’t have to look too far for the talent; most of the comedians are based in Albuquerque.

“All of the comedians have performed in my show before,” he says. “Comedians are much easier to book. I wanted to keep the quality up, and these on the list fit the bill.”

Kennedy says each comedian will get about four minutes on stage and then introduce the next comedian.

“I think it’s pretty cool to get all of these comedians together, and each one has a different style of comedy,” he says. “I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

The comedians are Ann Gora, Black Mike, Greg Ziomek, Curt Fletcher, Jack Tapestry, Mandy Hanson, Mike Long, Josh Fournier, Julian Motton, Danger K Varoz, Steve Costa, Luis Powell-Moreno, Zach Abeyta, Katie Lynn Milford, John Cuellar, Nicolina Nicthe, Roger W Peterson, Davyd Roseman, Kendra Jean Brand, Nicholas Starr, Melissa Eslinger, Anthony Joseph Martinez, Hollyanne Byrd, Goldie Garcia, Terese Garcia, Orion Kaminky, Jason Green, Mary Byrd and Kennedy.

Kennedy has been producing comedy shows for eight years.

He felt a need to fill the void left when Laff’s Comedy Club closed nearly a decade ago.

“My favorite thing is when I get a comedian that is learning and watching them grow,” he says. “A lot of people don’t get to see that transition. These comedians have moved their way up the ranks, from opener to headliner. I’ve seen a few kids do that this year, and it’s an amazing thing.”

Kennedy has built a list of 140 comedians over the course of eight years.

He puts on shows every Friday night at Rio Bravo.
