Governor celebrates new Los Lunas facility
$8.5M plant supports Facebook data center
LOS LUNAS — Gov. Susana Martinez joined a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday in Los Lunas for its new $8.5 million sludge management facility to be built at the village wastewater treatment plant that will help support a huge, nearby data center.
“I’m thrilled to be here to share all the excitement and the power of Facebook,” Martinez said. “This facility will not only keep Facebook in operation, but will have a positive impact on the people of Los Lunas.”
Construction of the new, roughly 6,000-square-foot sludge management facility will begin within the next two weeks. It is expected to be up and running in about 16-18 months.
The entire project is slated to be completed in two years and is partially funded through a $10 million LEDA grant the state awarded to Facebook for infrastructure improvements.
The governor commented on the village’s new retail shops, businesses and restaurants that have recently been built, saying Los Lunas has changed in the 30 years since her first visit.
“And that’s what the difference of bringing something like Facebook to a small community and how it starts to grow and grow,” Martinez said. “It is really, really super exciting.”
She thanked Mayor Charles Griego, Los Lunas councilors and the village administration for their hard work, as well as Facebook for its continued investment in New Mexico.
“This is the power of economic development,” Martinez said.
