Offer of donation ignored
AS PART OF my estate planning, I had intended a collection of approximately 300 marine shells to be donated to the Albuquerque Biopark/Aquarium. Most of these shells are in “good” to “fine” condition and are not just faded beach finds, and many of them have collection details about when, where they were collected, etc.
Three — count’ em! — times I have e-mailed the Biopark/Aquarium with information about the collection and have included several photos of numerous shells: on Oct. 18, 2017, Oct. 31, 2017 and most recently July 8. Each time I included the photos and indicated clearly that they would be a donation to the Biopark/Aquarium — after I’m gone! Three — count’ em! — times, I had no response. After Mayor (Tim) Keller was elected, I also sent an e-mail to his office, indicating my frustration about a lack of response concerning my attempt to make a donation. Guess what? No response from the Mayor’s Office either!
I would think that the Aquarium, especially, would be interested in having this collection as they are a valuable educational tool, not to mention just the beauty of the collection. I should have known not to expect a response. This is the typical lackluster, indifferent, “whatever” attitude in New Mexico!
Really, people: it only takes a couple of seconds to respond to an e-mail saying “yes, we’re interested”, or “No, we’re not interested”! SUE JIMENEZ Albuquerque
EDITOR’S NOTE: On Thursday an employee in the city’s Cultural Affairs Department called Jimenez and said he did not know what happened to her emails, but the city might be interested in the collection.
