Thursday: David Dahl’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh gave the Isotopes a 5-4 walk-off win and allowed them to split two games against visiting Round Rock.
The Express won the opener, the resumption of a suspended game from Wednesday, by a 12-5 score.
Round Rock led the suspended game 3-0 and had the bases loaded when action resumed in the second inning. Cliff
Pennington’s bloop single and a dropped fly ball quickly made it 7-0 and the rout was on. Pennington finished with three hits, including one of his team’s three homers.
Anthony Bemboom’s three-run homer helped Albuquerque build a 4-0 lead in the nightcap, a seven-inning contest, but Round Rock rallied to tie. After a rain delay of 76 minutes, Raimel Tapia singled and later scored on Dahl’s double just inside the third-base line. Dahl finished with four hits, including a homer, in the two games.
Notes: Express manager Jason Wood, a member of the Albuquerque Pro Baseball Hall of Fame after playing a record 597 games in Albuquerque, is one of several members of Round Rock organization with ties to the Isotopes or to Albuquerque.
Athletic trainer Carlos Olivas,a graduate of St. Michael’s in Santa Fe and the University of New Mexico (in 2000), lives in Albuquerque during the offseason. Pitcher Chris Jensen appeared for the Isotopes in five games earlier this season.
