A 25-year-old man was shot and killed on a busy Downtown street Sunday night.

No arrests have been made, and police have not said what led to the shooting.

Albuquerque Police Department spokesman Simon Drobik said around 10 p.m. officers were called to Seventh and Central for reports of a shooting. When they got there, they found Gerard Fraire with a gunshot wound.

“Medical personnel attempted first aid, however the male was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Drobik said.

Drobik would not say if Fraire had been in a car but did say there was a car at the scene of the shooting.

He said several people were in the area when the shooting occurred and homicide detectives interviewed multiple witnesses, some of whom had already posted cellphone videos on social media.

Those videos show a large group of people standing just outside the police tape while officers and paramedics try to help Fraire.

Fraire’s family and friends were also there, holding each other and weeping, on the sidewalk.

“We would urge the public if they have cell phone video or eyewitness accounts to contact us before they post online,” Drobik said. “It only puts us behind when it’s posted prior to us doing an investigation.”

He said they sealed a vehicle and collected casings at the scene.

“Detectives are investigating this incident as a homicide and no offenders have been arrested,” Drobik said.
