Pueblo Revolt of 1680 subject of talk
The Pueblo Revolt of 1680 will be the subject of a talk and commemoration at two events this weekend. On Saturday, Jon Gahate, a member of the Laguna and Zuni Pueblos and a Placitas resident, offers a Pueblo narrative of the revolt at 2 p.m. at the Placitas Library, 453 Highway 165, 5 miles east of I-25, exit 242. Information: placitaslibrary.com or 867-3355. Then, on Sunday, Jemez Springs is the site of the 15th annual Pueblo Independence Day Celebration. Commemorative activities begin at 7 a.m. with a pilgrimage run from Walatowa plaza in Jemez Pueblo to Giusewa Pueblo kiva at Jemez Historic Site. Festivities at the site between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. will feature Jemez traditional dances, Native American flute music, native arts and crafts and food. Admission is free.
